Ms. Naomi, my gardener friend

I was a young wife and mother raising two young sons and working full time as a school teacher.  Not a lot of time for tea parties and gardening.

And yet, even then I loved pretty delicate china tea cups and lovely roses.

I longed to have a pretty garden but knew very little about gardening.

I was very fortunate, however, because a friend of mine that I had known all of my life, Ms. Naomi, was a gardening expert!

She graciously offered to come to my house and help me prepare my soil for a garden and even brought seeds and flowers for me to plant.  She came on Good Friday.  She said she always planted on this blessed day.

I was very excited to have her help.  She showed me how to plant and water and my love for gardening had begun.  I will always be thankful for this sweet lady.

I had a very pretty garden that spring and summer and into the autumn.  Even though Ms. Naomi has been gone many years now, not a spring goes by that I don't think of her and her gift of gardening that she presented to me.

Do you love to watch things grow?  I sure do.  I think I have my daddy's farming blood in me.

Hi Vicki, You had a wonderful friend who taught you a wonderful lesson. It is always wonderful when you have someone to share their knowledge with you. Your flowers are so pretty and you can tell that autumn is here with the changes in the temperatures. Have a wonderful day. Take care Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend

Hello dear Vicki... how blessed you are to have had Ms. Naomi in your life... what a beautiful legacy she left with you... I know how much you love your flowers and gardens... and it shows by how very lovely everything looks... each Spring as I am planting, I know my mama, my grandmother and my little great~grandmother are all there at my side... helping me with my planting... I can just hear my mama saying "pour a little cup of water in with each one"... Happy October to you... xoxo Julie Marie

What a lovely post, my friend, and how neat that Ms. Naomi planted on Good Friday. That is such a special day, and the flowers serve as a constant reminder of what the Lord planted on that day and brought forth on Easter! Beautiful story.

I am blogging after breaking my hand and hope it holds up. I wrote about my mother in law's "In The Garden" experience today. We must be on the same wavelength. Not surprising.

Love you,

Sheila

Vicki, such a sweet story about your dear friend. What a treasure she was to you, and still is. I'm sure you think of her during planting season, and what a wonderful thing she did by planting on Good Friday. I think that's lovely. And so are your photographs. I always love your posts.

Blessings always,
Marianne xo

I had a garden lady, too! She loved helping me, even though she was very shy and reserved. I loved touring her garden just across the street. She gifted me with vision for my future gardens, too!

How blesed to have such a wonderful friend. I wish I had a mentor of learning about the great good earth. I came across gardening by being told not to feed the birds as the birdseed was causing weeds to grow in my landlords garden. Oh..thank you for this I became a lover of gardens when I finaly had my own home..and I still feed the birds first.
Hugs to you and Ms. Naomi
