I'm just a farm girl at heart~

I love the simple way of the farm life.  Not that it is always an easy life.  A farmer has to do a lot of hard work and a lot of trusting in the weather.

My daddy was a farmer.  It was in his blood.  When he wasn't farming, he was always looking for a farm.  He farmed on the plains of west Texas and in the dry desert of eastern New Mexico.  He had to do a lot of irrigating, but he was always so proud when that cotton crop came up!

I didn't grow up on a farm. My daddy farmed in west Texas before I was born.  We lived in town in New Mexico.  He went out to a widow lady's land and farmed the land for her there in New Mexico.  I can remember going out to the farm when I was very young.  He and momma would "chop cotton" and then in the fall, the cotton had to be picked.

One of my favorite memories of this time was riding in the truck with my daddy when he was pulling a load of cotton to the gin.  I usually was treated to a soda pop and a peanut patty when we were finished!!

I think I inherited that "farming blood" from my daddy.  I love to have my hands in the dirt.  Nothing makes me smile more than to see some seeds that I have planted begin to sprout.  Yes, even though I have never officially lived on a farm, in my heart of hearts, I am definitely a "farm girl".
Dear friends, thank you so much for stopping by to visit this farm girl today.  I hope something is making you smile or laugh today.  Sometimes it is the smallest of things that bring the most pleasure.  Have a delightful weekend!

I knew I liked you! I grew up as a small child on a farm, too. Kindred spirits in that and in Christ.

XO,

Sheila

I love this post! DH and I both spent our youth on farms - DH full-time, me at weekends and when school was out. We are so lucky to have a little small-holding to spend our retirement years enjoying.
I wish I had the stamina for an old-fashioned life of people like Tasha Tudor!

Yay! I grew up looking at farms and working on farms, but we lived at the golf course. I do like planting seeds and checking on squash when it begins to appear. I think I'm a bit too bookish to be a good farm wife. I'm glad the Lord knows that!
Have you read Mary Jane's Farm? You'd love it!

yes, farming is hard work. Farmers are up at the crack of dawn and don't take off the work boots until late at night! The rewards are wonderful and you appriciate every day that is a good farm day..nice post..love the clothes line..brings back memories of my mom habging out clothes for a family of 9..I always helped..

Good Morning Vicki, Your post brings back memories today of my childhood. I had never lived in town until the late 1950's. We lived on several different farms during my childhood. You had your chores that you had to do while you were growing up, but I love the country air, the feeling of being in wide open spaces. Thanks for the memories. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend

I loved this post Vicki and to be able to read more about you. I am a farm girl too and am so grateful to have that in my blood. I think it is a grounding thing for us. It helps us to see life in a different way and appreciate all the small things in life.

What a lovely sentiment, Vicki. You expressed it all so beautifully with fond memories of your dear daddy. And of course I love the photos that accompany it.

Oh, I too, love to see my seeds sprout. The hard part is the waiting. I suppose in the meantime more seeds should be planted..always planting. I love this verse from scripture...

English Standard Version (©2001)
In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.

May your day be blessed with good harvest,
Marinane xo
