Halloween. . .

is just around the corner. . .so many happy memories for me. . .I loved scary stories, did you?  I can remember going to visit my cousins in Texas. . .

We would go into my grandma's kitchen and turn off all the lights. . .we would light the burners on her gas stove and gather around it to tell our spooky tales. . .we  would try to scare each other to death!!!  How fun!!!

One Halloween, my momma made me a "Daisy Mae" costume.  Kids today wouldn't know who she was.  This was definitely one of my favorite costumes.  Did you have a favorite?

Of course, the best part of "trick or treat" was that gooey candy!!  My favorites were Sugar Babies and Hershey bars.  What treat did you look forward to receiving?
Looking back, those were such innocent, fun times.  I will always treasure those memories, won't you?  We are having cool, autumn-like weather here in Central Texas today!!  Yipeeeee!!  I am loving this weather.  I have my pumpkin spice candle lit, and it smells heavenly.  Dear friends, please enjoy your day and "Happy Halloween" from me to you!!!

Oooh Vicki... such precious memories, and as always, so similar to my own... I just did several posts about my Halloween memories as a little girl... my sister and I were usually hobos, always a homemade costume... usually one of daddy's old coats, etc.... my favorite candy (one of them) was orange jelly beans!... and of course, homemade pumpkin and witch shaped cookies my mama made... your story about you and your cousins at your grandma's house, gathered 'round the stove, telling scary stories... how fun!... kids today missed out on soo much!... that is why I love to keep my family traditions going... and Daisie Mae, how adorable!... yes, I remember Daisy Mae and Lil Abner!... Happy Halloween to you sweet friend... oh yes... can you be at my place at dusk Halloween night?... then we can trick~or~treat together!... much love, xoxo Julie Marie

I like Sugar Babies, too! We went up our street, only about 20 houses. I gobbled up my candy; no rationing it out in lunch boxes for me!
The kids at school love scary stories, too!

My dear Vicki...what a nice post bringing back fond memories of Halloweens past. Yes, I remember those homemade costumes so loving stitched together by my mother. I remember two in particular - a beautiful clown costume which I wore as a very little girl, and a wonderful American Indian dress which I wore when I was around 12-13 years old.

I was just talking about sugar babies to my son the other day. I was telling him how much I ate them as a child, and how I can't imagine why I liked them. They were nothing but sugar. He was telling me that now he doesn't like a lot of sugary treats he liked as a child, too...he's 22 years old now.

But I think my favorite treats is when we got milky ways and snickers or three musketeers in our bags.

But if I happen to have just one or two candy corns (I can't eat more than that) the taste totally brings me back to my childhood Halloweens.

Yes, we are experiencing some wonderful cool weather, too, and it brings back memories of New Jersey, and going into the warm house in my mothers arms and where something good would be baking in the oven...mmmm...

Thank you for invoking these great memories. And I wish us more of this chilly weather, and a wonderful Halloween.

Sending you lots of hugs and love,
Marianne xox

Oh, I forgot to tell you that I just love your sweet Halloween and Autumn decor. The little witch girl is so cute holding her little pumpkin, and I love the sweet frame with the painting of the girl holding an apple on the pumpkin.

Hello sweet Vicki!! I was so happy to see you visited me! I have been a bad blog friend lately. I loved your Halloween memories. We trick or treated for hours and hours, and brought home a pillowcase filled with candy! Oh my did my teeth hate me for that!! I loved the houses that gave out full size candy bars, and toys! Some gave out quarters, and of course we visted 2x. Great memories! Unfortunately, this year we are expecting a very bad storm here on the east cost. They are calling it "Frankenstorm". It is a hurricane Sandy, that will also mix with another nor' Easter. They predict it will hit tonight into Tuesday or Wed. Happy Halloween!

Hugs,
Debbie xo

Oh...I was Daisy Mae one year too Vicki! Isn't that funny? I think my favorite candy at Halloween was Milk Duds and Snaps. Do you remember Snaps? Tootsie Rolls were also a favorite too.
I loved reading about your memories with your cousins. I still love scary stories : )
sending hugs...

We never, ever bought costumes. They were always made or put together at home. Growing up, I loved scary stories and movies -- but no more! My 14 year old doesn't like scary stuff either -- we both hide our eyes or cover our ears when something creepy comes on tv. Wishing you a wonderful week. Tammy
