The Sandwich sisters of Corsicana, Texas

In the early 1900's, there were two sisters by the name of Sandwich who lived in Corsicana, Texas. They were well-known for their beautiful hand-painted china. During World War One, soldiers passing through Corsicana on the train would buy the lovely china that was so expertly painted and then ship it back home to their mothers or sweethearts. I am fortunate to be able to own some of these wonderful pieces of china. The blue forget-me-not large cake plate and smaller dessert plates along with the blue candlesticks covered in pink roses are the pieces I own that were painted by these sisters. I actually have six of the dessert plates. I really love these pieces because I know they were lovingly painted and then owned and loved by someone before me. They have a history with others and this makes them even more special to me. I also wanted to show you one of my favorite pin cushions and a prized dresser set. The dresser set consists of a tray, hair receiver, ring box, and perfume bottle. These sit on my vanity, and they are some of my favorite hand-painted china pieces. Thank you so much for taking the time to come by today. I am always happy to be able to share some of my favorite things with you. I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christmas as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Have a wonderful weekend, dear friends.

Dear Vicki, these are so beautiful!! Such a lovely shade of blue and the handpainting is so delicate - no wonder the soldiers couldn't resist buying piecesfor their mothers and sweethearts :o) You are fortunate to be the owner of so many pieces. Well done and thanks for sharing them with us.

Being from Texas myself, I'd love to have this collection. LOL It's stunning. At first when I looked at the smaller photos, I thought maybe it was Texas Bluebells, but they're forget me nots....absolutely a gorgeous, powdery blue.

My show n tell is HERE

Happy Friday.

The hand painted plates and china is lovely. I had an antique shop years ago and this reminds me of that. You are lucky to have so many and to know the story of the ladies who painted them.

Vicki, I had a thought in my head as I was looking and drooling at the gorgeous china pictures, "please don't tell me you found these at the local flea market or garage sale" and I am so happy to see that, that was not the case. Of course if it had been the case, you would have been the luckiest person ever!! Your collection is perfect and I hope when you are out and about, you may find some pieces to add. Thankyou so much for sharing the story of the Sandwich Sisters, I love those candlesticks. Char

Thank you for stopping by to see my new doll that I shared on Show & Tell Friday at Cindy's My Romantic Home. I have gotten her out of her Thanksgiving outfit & have her up for Christmas in a whole new vingette. It is so wonderful that you have been to Marta's Room. CUTE SHOP isn't it? It would be fun to get to meet another fellow Texas Blogger. I have met some of the most wonderful friends through blogging. I have her in my new vignette so stop by again soon.

I do love all of your hand painted pieces. Those sisters were indeed talented gals. Corrsicana is just not that far. And to think of the soldiers stopping to buy those items. Sweet story. Glad they have a home with someone who treasures them. Have a wonderful weekend.

It was wonderful to run across your website. I have a dresser set that was my great grandmother's that has Sandwich, Corsicana, Texas on the bottom. I have wondered for years where the "Sandwich" came from. I even called the Corsicana C of C and all they could tell me is there was a Sandwich family that had owned a house there.
Thank you,
