My sister

The first picture is of my sister and I probably taken in 1955 or 1956. She was 17 or 18 and I was 4 or 5. I believe the photographer came to our home and took the picture. Notice the wallpaper so typical of the 1940's and 1950's. Also notice our white collars. It was very popular to wear a detachable collar with sweaters and dresses during this time. My sister was the best sister when we were growing up. She would sometimes let me tag along with her and her friends when they went to a ballgame, the movies, or even to the A and W drive in for a frosty mug of root beer. I remember going in to her closet and getting out her can-cans (petticoats) and putting them on to play dress up. I used one of my belts to keep them up and always found a pair of her high heels and possibly a tiara to wear, too. One autumn I had fallen in love with a beautiful bride doll at our local hardware store. Every time we went to town, I would head to the hardware store, climb the stairs to the second floor toy department, and gaze lovingly at my dream doll. She was in a glass case so I couldn't touch her, all I could do was stare at her and dream about her. Well, one day I came home from school and there on our dining room table was a beautifully wrapped package and inside was my bride doll. My sister had bought her for me. Through the years, Myra and I have always been close and even more so now. She and I are both retired and live only a few miles apart. We are enjoying getting to go and get a hamburger together or even doing a little shopping. We hope to travel and see some of the beautiful places in our wonderful land of the United States of America. As I told you in an earlier post, Myra lives in a wonderful retirement village. She teaches crafts to the ladies at the village each week. The last picture is of a heart pillow she made me for my retirement. I love hearts and roses so you can see she knows me well. I have decided to sit it on a wicker chair in my sunroom so I can look at it often and remember my sister and her loyalty and her friendship through all of my life. I cannot speak of my sister and I without also paying tribute to our wonderful parents, Dibb and Roween Smith. They raised us well with lots of love and many happy memories. Myra and I miss them terribly, but we know they are in heaven and their kind spirits still surround us with love to this very day. Thank you for coming by for a visit today. May you have a very happy rest of the week as you remember your loved ones and those you hold near and dear to your heart.

Dear Vicki, I really enjoyed your post. I have 2 older sisters and they used to let me tag along with them, try on their shoes and make-up too :o) One is in New York and the other in Caribbean. I made a trip to N.Y. last year, and got a visit from my sister from the Caribbean 2 months ago. It must be great to live fairly close to each other :o)

Well, honey, you may have brought a smile these other sweet ladies, but you brought tears to my eyes!! Such a sweet sentiment from such a lovely, sweet, kind, precious sister. You may be the youngest, but you have always been such an inspiration to me. You're such a good Christian role model. Thank you for the post today and for always being so caring and sharing with your big "sis"!! I love you, Myra

It sounds like you and your sister have a very special relationship. I have an older sister I think is wonderful too, although she's only a year older. We've grown into our relationship now that we're older. In High School she could be a bit of a pill, which she freely admits! Thank heaven she outgrew it, I have a little younger sister that never has. I still have hope one day she will!!! The pillow is very beautiful too. Hope you have a wonderful evening.

What a sweet tribute to your precious sister. I just love that pic of the two of you! Do you still have the bride doll? If so, I'd love to see a picture of it. I have a collection of wedding memorabilia & am constantly adding to it! Your parents must be looking down on the two of you with such pride and love!

Big Hugs,

What a wonderful story about your sister. Sadly I have recently lost my sister, she was only 50 and it came as a big shock, its only when they are not there anymore that you wish
youd spent more time together. Enjoy every moment you have together.

What a wonderful tribute to your sister. Your relationship sounds wonderful I always wanted a sister when we were growing up. But now that we are adults, my baby brother and I couldn't be closer.

Thanks so much for stopping by The Old Parsonage and leaving such sweet comments.

Enjoy!

Vicki,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a note I could have written your post about my own dear sister Kate who is my kindred spirit in all ways. She is the first person I call in all triumphs and tragedies. I too am the younger and though she lives two mountains away, we talk constantly and don't ever miss a holiday together. Thanks for reminding me how great a sis can be and a sis in the Lord is worth more than the greatest of treasures. God Bless You Both !!! Enjoy your adventures together and if you are coming my way you are welcome here!! Meg
