Black and Gold. . .

Everything is black and gold,
Black and gold tonight:

Yellow pumpkins, yellow moon, yellow candlelight;

Jet-black cats with golden eyes,
Shadows black as ink

Firelight blinking in the dark
With a yellow blink

Black and gold, black and gold
Nothing in between

When the world turns black and gold
Then it's Halloween!~Nancy Byrd Turner

This poem brings to memory many Halloweens passed:  Trick or Treating as a young girl in New Mexico,  then getting my sons ready for Trick or Treat and always reading this very same poem year after year with my students in school.  Today, I look forward to Trick or Treat with my precious grandchildren.  What autumn memories do you have, dear friends?  Many happy ones I hope!

Much the same Vicki. I loved Halloween as a child and as a mother. So much fun! I never knew what the kids would want to be so there was always last minute things to be done and boy did we come up with some crazy costumes!

I used to love to trick or treat, and my mother sometimes did a spook house for my class. It I loved the fair in the fall and also the candy apples that my grandmother would make.

Hello dear Vicki,

What a delightful poem...I'm so happy you shared that. I love your illustrations that go with it, too.

I have fond memories of Halloweens past, like how the candy bars were the BIG size, and my mother always made it fun, even if we had to wear our coats over our costumes (New Jersey got cold about that time of year). Then Halloween with my son, when we was little - all good stuff!

Have a happy, happy day,

Marianne xo

I loved the old Halloween songs we sang in school. Did you sing, "A Goblin Lives in Our House"?
We had parties in the church basement.
