It was love at first sight. . .

We met at the local hardware store. My family always went to town on Saturday afternoon as most families did in the small New Mexico town of Carlsbad where I grew up. We went to visit with friends and neighbors, do a little window shopping and sometimes drop by the corner drug store for a cherry coke. I always begged my parents to let me go across the street from the drug store to the hardware store. Upon entering the store, I always climbed the stairs to the second floor. There is where the toys were housed. In large glass cases were the most beautiful dolls I had ever seen. I was especially smitten with a beautiful bride doll. I am pretty sure she liked me, too, and wanted to go home with me. For months, I would make my weekly visit to the dolls, each time praying she had not been sold to some other little girl. Then, one afternoon I came home from school and there standing on our dining room table was my doll!! My sweet sister, Myra, had bought her for me. I will never forget that moment and will always be grateful to my sister for that wonderful surprise. I wish I could say I still have my doll, but down over the years, we lost contact. I am not sure what happened to her, but she will always have a special place in my heart. What special toy or present from your childhood will you always remember and cherish? Wishing you all the happiness in the world! Love and blessings to you!

Hi Vicki!
I love your doll story! I bet you could find one just like her on Ebay. Sue from Collect in Texas Gal found her childhood doll that way.
I love your new header! It's so you!

Oh Vicki... how very sweet of Myra to buy you your special doll... that touches my heart so... sisters are the best!... your doll will always be a part of you, in your cherished memories, close to your heart... I loved hearing about a cherry coke too!... such a treat back then!... I have alot of cherished things from my past, my memories being my most precious... but I also remember a special book I received one Christmas... it was a Trixie Belden mystery and I had wanted it all year... back then, kids were not spoiled like they are today by getting things all year round... the wait made it all the more wonderful... and I still have it... xoxo Julie Marie

Such sweet memories. Such a sweet gift from your sister. I still have my baby beans doll from when I was about 5. Unfortunately, I left her outside one night so long ago and she stopped talking. There is a string at the nape of her neck that could be pulled and she would say things .. I don't remember what now, but she stopped talking long ago. :/ Wishing you a beautiful week!

I can so relate to your visiting that doll ... & your squeal of delight to find her when you came home. I had a Ginny (her name by me) doll that I adored, too. She & I lost touch years ago. Ahhh, for those precious memories. What a sweet sister you have.

Come join our cause for Zoe, I deeply appreciate this.

A priceless story, Vicki! I could just imagine Heaven so willing to please you with the doll, and your sister's love creating the perfect channel. What a nice remembrance of the doll and your sister.

I had a ballerina doll, and I remember her ballet shoes to this day, but I think my favorite doll must have been my Tiny Tears doll, and then Barbie. I played for many years and many hours with them.

I'm sending you blessings and love dear one.

What a sweet story about the doll that your sister bought for you. I'm sure you have dear memories of her. For me, it was my barbie doll. My mom used to make clothes for her, and to this day, I still have a few of those clothes. I hope you are having a nice summer.

I loved reading this post Vicki...it reminded me of the town where I grew up and it's hardware store that had an upper floor too with it's creaky stairs. They had so many toys that I would dream about too. Your sister was so kind to buy that doll for you. Now that's an awesome sister!!!
You have brought some sweet memories back to me today dear friend.
hugs from here...
