With Father's Day approaching this Sunday, my thoughts this evening are turning toward my hero, my daddy. My daddy loved his family and took great pride in providing for his family. He worked all one autumn digging up tree stumps from a farmer's field to have enough money to buy a winter coat for my sister, Myra, when she was just a young girl. My mother had Parkinson's Disease and for the last ten years of her life, my daddy was momma's major caregiver. Daddy had two daughters, Myra and I, and no sons. I suppose I turned out to be his surrogate son. We went fishing together and watched sports together. To this day, I love to go fishing and usually always watch some sporting event on tv and not a whole lot of anything else. Daddy was "Pop" to his grandchildren and let me tell you, he worshipped the ground they walked on. My boys would say, "Pop, have you seen that new Monster Wheels Truck at Wal-Mart?" and daddy would say, "No, I don't think I have. Let's go take a look at one because I think you need one of those." They would soon be back home with the latest Monster Truck one for each, Jeremy and Aaron. Tonight I am thankful for my daddy and the legacy he left for our entire family. He was a man of God and treated all people with respect and dignity. He loved to laugh and have a good time. His presence is with me each day. I have raised two sons, and I can see my daddy in them as they love their families and strive to meet the needs of their wives and children. I am wishing all father's everywhere the happiest of Father's Day and thank you for the positive influences you have made in our lives. Sending love to each of you, sweet friends.

Hi Vicki, this was so sweet about your father. What a blessing to have all these wonderful memories for you and your sons to relive. I had a special relationship with mine too. He's in heaven now.
Isn't that something? We may have seen each other and in Roswell just didn't know! :)
Be a sweetie,

What a legacy!
I wish every child could someday write a post as you have written.
Oh Vicki, as always when you and I reminisce I am teary eyed... your daddy was (is) such a wonderful man... and I can just feel the love you have for him... how kind and caring he was (is... I have posted before that I still refer to loved ones who have passed on in the present tense... their passing did not change their souls)...like your family, ours had no boys either, and I was sort of the tomboy who did alot of things with my daddy as you did with yours...I love that you can see your daddy in your precious sons... thank you for sharing a very personal, beautiful tribute to your dear daddy... love to you... xoxo Julie Marie

Oh Vicki, there is no greater tribute to a loved father than yours. When I read your post, it took me back to a time in life when families stood together and respected one another. A simplier times of hard work and devotion. Sadly, my father and father in law are gone and very missed to this day. I think there are many of us that will thinking about these wonderful men tomorrow. Thankyou so much for a beautiful post. Char
Dear Vicki, what lovely memories of your sweet daddy. I miss mine so much and it seems like a life time since he has hugged me. I miss him so. We can only honor our dad's and know they did us well. Happy Fathers day to all of us daughters...
Very touching my friend!
Hi Vicki~
You have such a wonderful way to weave a story right into our hearts and make them a memory!
"I think you need one of those..." We all need someone to say that to us once in a while! What a sweet and gentle man you father must have been!

Waht a wonderful tribute to a wonderful dad! When you wrote that he treated everyone with respect and dignity, I thought to myself...and therein lies his greatness! To me that is the measure of a man (or woman). Thank you for posting this Vicki, I enjoyed hearing your love today!

Hello Vickie,
Eventhough you grew up with those adventures like a young boy would have, you still love teacups and everything pretty :-)
Your father sound like a wonderful man and a loving one at that. It is so cute to picture him with your sons in that conversation you just shared :-)
And most importantly - - a man of God. How blessed we are to have such fathers who taught us of him. I do believe that loving God first, everything else will follow - - family, friends, fellowmen. You are blessed!
Also, I would like to thank you for your kind words and for the prayers for my family too. We needed that and we continue still. I appreciate it and it truly helped :-)
Mizpah,
Li
